Summary
Gail and I both had mixed feelings about this dish. It has its good points and it has its bad points.
The Good
Bursts of flavor, filling, and healthy.
The Bad
While the raisins and honey were a nice contrast to the sharp flavors of feta and vinegar marinade, there was one flavor that hogged the palate. The kalamata olives overpowered everything else. Without those, the flavors would have melded much better.
Don’t Make Me Fight With My Food
The seasoning on the chicken skin was good, but the meat itself was pretty bland. Of course, picking the meat off the bone and then mixing it with the orzo salad allowed the meat to take on the strong flavors of the salad. One thing that really annoys me though is fighting to get meat off a bone when I’d rather just be eating. I’m not fond of the messy fingers that results from that process either. Next time, I’d take the meat off the bone and mix it with the salad before plating the dish.
Things I’m Really Digging
I’m really enjoying the various dishes that involve orzo or grains, mixed with vegetables such as cauliflower, kale or broccoli. Trust me, I never would have imagined I would enjoy these kinds of meals so much, but these meal kits really know how to bring fantastic flavors to the mix. I’m loving that.
Without the overwhelming olive flavor, this probably would have been a solid 4 star dish. With the current ingredient combination, however, I had to drop the rating a bit.
