Summary

I should start by mentioning that I was over-the-top excited to try this meal kit. A few decades ago, I experienced Satay with Peanut Sauce for the first time in a Thai restaurant in San Francisco. I fell in love with Satay, and Peanut Sauce especially! I haven’t eaten satay with peanut sauce in many, many years. So when I saw this meal kit choice on Hello Fresh this week, I was crazy excited about it.

Sadly, it didn’t live up to my expectations. That’s probably just a reflection of me expecting something different than what this dish is all about. The dinner was good. Gail loved it. If I hadn’t had any expectations, I might have loved it too. But as it was, I just couldn’t get over my disappointment.

For one thing, I thought the peanut sauce should have been thicker. I followed the directions, but it was just too thin and runny, I believe.

It didn’t help that when I took the broccoli pan out of the oven, it slipped out of my hand, the pan flew up and over, and broccoli was EVERYWHERE. I managed to save enough to eat, but it was frustrating. Again, not the meal kit’s fault. Totally my own fault! But it just added a little to the frustration and disappointment for me.

You’ll probably really like this dish. It just didn’t fit with my fond memories. Sad for me, good for everyone else. 🙂

Tip

Glance through the recipe instructions before you begin. Some recipes ask you to chop veggies in the middle of the process, usually while something else is cooking on the stove. I recommend ignoring those instructions. Instead, prep all your veggies before you do anything else. (You can preheat your oven during this time). If you are anything like me, trying to chop vegetables while watching over the cooking process will usually end up with overcooked or burned food, or even knicked fingers.
