Be Careful What You Wish For

Just yesterday, I was expressing my discontent with the chicken fajitas meal kit being a bit too normal. Today’s dish, the Za’atar Harissa Burgers with Tahini Zucchini, falls into the “not quite normal enough” category.

I know, make up my mind already, right?!

Tahini Zucchini, Tahini Zucchini

It’s fun to say out loud…Tahini Zucchini. It’s less fun to eat.

The first problem involved the lack of freshness. The zucchini was going soft, although it wasn’t yet inedible.

The next issue was the tahini sauce. It was just a little too far on the “odd flavor” side. I like tahini, by the way, but this taste was just off. I guess it was the combination of tahini, red wine vinegar, and olive oil that made it fairly awful. I ate it, but Gail just couldn’t handle it. It made me want to stick out my tongue and say “bleh, bleh, bleh”.

Harissa Mayo Not Okay-o

I think adding the harissa post to the mayo was over the top. The burger already had plenty of good, strong flavor from the za’atar seasoning, so dumping harissa paste into the mix went a step too far. Gail liked the burger. I didn’t dislike it but I wish I’d left the harissa paste out of the mayo.

Sauteed Onions

The onions were great and they helped balance out the warring harissa and za’atar flavors.

Overall, the burgers were pretty good but the too-soft, raw tahini zucchini was better suited for the trash can.

Summary

Za’atar Burgers would be better without the harissa paste, and the tahini zucchini was pretty close to awful. The sweet onions helped save the meal though.

    Would have never ordered this to begin with! Lol

    Sorry it wasn’t good. Hate spending hard earned money for a bad meal – not to mention having to cook it and clean it up!
